So here it is, the 20-year-old HW Lamborghini Diablo. Now I previously said it was from ‘95, the year I was born, but having it now I can’t confirm it. Ebay said it’s from ‘95, but the back of the card says ‘91, and the bottom of the car itself says ‘90. Both cars. Speaking of, the Purple Diablo out of the box there, that crappy, worn, scratched, dented, busted up mess there is the reason I bought this. Y’see that scrappy 20-something Diablo is, as far as memory serves, my first Hotwheels and basically anything car. It’s the reason I’m a gearhead today. Hunting it down from the plastic drawers in my basement was a good idea.

Alternatively, a Corvette that's about to have a massive accident.

The year on the bottom of the cars refers to when the patent was filed for the cast by Mattel. Usually, this is one year before the actual cast is put into production. In the Diablo’s case, 1990 was the year of the patent being filed and 1991 was when the first model was introduced to the line. The line introduction is probably the year that appears on the card. According to the Hot Wheels Wiki, the first time purple was used was 1996.

Now it may just be lighting, but it looks like your loose one is a Metalflake Purple while the carded car is a Pearl Purple. You’d have to clarify that one though but the metalflake was the first purple used on this car.

Beautiful car, by the way and excellent find on the bay of E’s. I love this color.
